“Competitiveness is an Imperative”
Minister Tewarie addresses the 4th Biennial Conference on Business, Banking & Finance
The Minister of Planning and the Economy, Senator the Honourable Dr. Bhoendradatt Tewarie addressed the 4th Biennial Conference on Business, Banking and Finance at the Hilton Trinidad Hotel and Conference centre on June 22, 2011.
The theme of Minister Tewarie’s address was Enhancing Business Competitiveness. Also addressing the attendees was Trinidad and Tobago businessman Mr. Derek Chin and the session was chaired by Mr. Errol Simms of the University of the West Indies.
In his address, Minister Tewarie encouraged the listeners to make global thinking the basis for local action and stated that becoming an active player in the non-energy global community was crucial to improving the quality of life of citizens. To further outline his call for competitiveness being an imperative, the minister stated that “competitive businesses are those which are able to sustain high levels of productivity, which has positive consequences for economic and social prosperity”.

Minister Tewarie was involved with the International Business, Banking and Finance Conference from its inception at the University of the West Indies and supported the development of the Conference immensely in his capacity as Campus Principal. This forum facilitates the exchange of ideas on business, banking and finance in the region by business leaders, policy makers and international thinkers.
