Library Services Unit - Services

The LSU provides traditional library services as well as research, e-document delivery and information consultations. Services are customized to the needs of the user, just ask one of the Librarians.

Online Catalogue

The LSU has bibliographic and full-text databases of resources held in the custody of the three branch Libraries at the Twin Towers, Housing Building and the Environment Policy Planning Division.

Document Delivery

The LSU can provide you with document delivery via both print and electronic copies.
Print – search the LSU online catalogues and generate a bibliography, visit or contact the LSU for selected titles.
The Librarians may be able to facilitate inter-library (short) loans on your behalf, just ask when and where necessary.
Electronic - search the LSU online catalogues, select the titles of the periodical articles that you want and either visit or contact the LSU.

Research

The LSU staff can assist you in formulating research strategies for varied topics and in compiling bibliographies. Some topics may be detailed and require extensive research, therefore it is incumbent on the user to contact us in a timely manner.

Digitization & E-services

Electronic - search the LSU online catalogues, select the titles of the periodical articles that you want and either visit or contact the LSU to have short items digitized and downloaded or emailed to you in pdf Format.

The following electronic databases are available online only:

EBSCO Host

- databases cover business, health, education, general science, and biographies. They also contain photographs, maps and flags. Available only within the LSU precincts.

  • NoveList Plus provides a range of Readers' Advisory products and services. It covers both fiction and non-fiction.
  • Business Searching Interface covers country economic data, company profiles, industry information and market research.
  • Points of View Reference Center is a full-text database that provides a series of essays that present various sides of a current or controversial topic. For each topic there is an overview, an argument in favour of the topic and and an opposing argument.
  • Literary Reference Center offers a wide range of information on authors and their works. The database contains plot summaries, synopses and work overviews, articles of literary criticism, author biographies, book reviews, classic and contemporary poems and short stories, and author interviews.

Periodical Content Pages

  • The contents’ pages of each periodical is digitized and uploaded as a full-text pdf document on the intranet and website.
  • Search and read the contents pages and if you require copy of an article (for official use) then you may contact the Librarians who will have it digitized and emailed to you or visit the LSU.
